To Be Set Free
KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH:
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”(JN 8:31,32)
It’s Knowledge of the Truth that sets us free.
* Many Know about truth, but few have Knowledge of that Truth.
(See yesterdays devotion on the verses “what is truth” at the end)
1 Timothy 2: 4 since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time.
2 Corinthians 13: 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the sake of the truth.
A Freedom comes to us when we CONTINUE in God’s Word because it produces the knowledge of God.
Hebrews 10:26 For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us,
*Once we hear Gods word in regards to the sin and repent but keep doing the same Sin we are now deliberately are doing it on Purpose because we have received the truth but fail to obey! This than keeps us from the mercy of God!
*This passage demands that we do not take lightly our obedience…in fact to do so is to “[trample] the Son of God underfoot”!
*Let us, then, be Fervent about Obedience while Still living in the freedom of the cross. This is our proper balance as sons (and daughters) of the King.
If we have eyes to see, the Lord will open to us by way of revelation the things that have been hidden. These things will be both of the realm of the spirit and the soul. The Lord will also show us the things that we have removed from ourself by way of denial. The result will be a greater level of candor as well as emotional freedom. The Lord calls us forth into a standard of honesty and openness that we have not yet attained. We need to always be willing to stretch……
John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
What Jesus Resurrection Means for You and me. “Knowledge of Truth”!
*SET FREE*
1. Jesus is the person he claimed to be.
“…who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 1:4)
2. Jesus has the power he claimed to have.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1:3,4) Acts 2:24
What does it mean to be SET FREE?
(news that you can use, John 8:31,32)
A. Freedom from the pain of your past.
*“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18,19)
* Psalm 34(pain of regret) 6 God doesn’t want you living in a prison of guilt.
**In His timing, God will align our “wrong feelings” with our “right choices”, and we’ll begin to Taste the peaceful fruit of forgiveness.
* “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”Hebrews 12:11
B. Freedom from the pressures of the present.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:23)
We need a purpose & we need a power.
C. Freedom from anxiety about the future.
“Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 125:1,2)
*** The principal ministry of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Believer is to open up our Heart to understand what the Word of God means.
*** The degree of the blessings you enjoyed is determined by your degree of understanding.
Galations 6:9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
2 Peter 1:3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
“Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians
4:6).
I believe that prayer mixed with faith is the answer to everything and Yes “SET FREE”.
We are told to pray as our first option, not after we have tried everything else in vain.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33).
So many Christians today are being plundered by Satan. Their homes are in
turmoil, they are plagued with fear and guilt, they face trouble on all sides.
The problems are overwhelming.
But to be truthful:
* So few believers who are facing difficulties turn to the Lord in fervent prayer.
* Few today have consistent, daily, quality time alone with God in prayer.
** Too often, despair sets in because they do not go to the secret place, to unburden their souls and cry out their sorrows to the Lord.
**Instead, they tell all of their problems to friends, pastors, counselors –and they neglect the Lord, who waits to have them all alone.
If Honest- We pray as a last resort!!!!!!
“My people have forgotten me days without number” (Jeremiah
2:32).
God is pleased when we run to him FIRST, when we make special time to be alone with Him, pouring out our innermost feelings and laying our petitions before Him.
In Matthew 11:28 Jesus encourages us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
I used to get so frustrated when I heard this verse because I thought, I don’t want rest. I want reassurance! I’m burdened by this decisions I have to make.
Jesus is saying if you come to Me, I will take your exhaustion and uncertainty and turn it into a calm expectation.
God will hear and answer you when he sees you’re willing to shut off all
worldly voices for a season. Cry out the contents of your heart, pour out your
soul before him, and trust he will respond. The time has come for brokenness before the Lord, for a faith born out of contrite intercession. Follow these scriptural ways, and God will hear and God will answer.
You can speak to Jesus about everything – your problems, your present trial, your finances, your health – and tell him how overwhelmed you are, even how discouraged you are.
Jesus will hear you with love and sympathy, and he will not despise your cry.
I Come Lord Jesus! I Come! Amen
